Program Description

Fermilab VetTech is a military veteran intern who provides routine technical support for an assigned experiment or support group. The program assumes apprenticeship level expertise, general military experience and/or knowledge-based on academic study. These are paid 10-week internships, 40-hour workweek, are available annually in the summer. We offer VetTech Computing, VetTech Mechanical, VetTech Electrical and VetTech Procurement internships.

A VetTech Computing Intern performs routine tasks to assist in aspects of configuration, installation, support or maintenance of computing hardware, software, systems, networks, and applications. Tasks are accomplished under direct supervision of a Fermilab employee and in accordance with established policies and procedures.

A VetTech Mechanical Intern provides routine technical support for area of assignment; typically, an experiment or support group. Depending on the area of assignment, fabricates, sets up, calibrates, operates, tests, repairs, and/or modifies a variety of mechanical equipment, systems and devices, or performs ESH duties including environmental surveys, waste disposal, and radiological surveys. Tasks are accomplished under direct supervision of a Fermilab employee and in cooperation with project teams, scientists, engineers, and support personnel and in accordance with established policies and procedures.

A VetTech Electrical / Electronics intern provides routine technical support for area of assignment; typically, an experiment or support group. Depending on the area of assignment, fabricates, operates, tests, repairs, and/or modifies a variety of electronic equipment, systems and devices.  Tasks are accomplished under direction supervision of a Fermilab employee and in cooperation with project teams, scientists, engineers, and support personnel and in accordance with established policies and procedures

Internship Details

  • Salary: $20.00 per hour
  • Housing: A housing stipend is available for eligible interns
  • Transportation: Reimbursement for one round trip domestic flight or mileage reimbursement at the allowable rate for eligible interns
  • Location: Internship is in-person onsite in Batavia, IL & Fermilab Installations

Deliverables

  • Complete a 10-week program under the supervision of Fermilab employee
