Program Description

Sponsored by the Department of Energy Office of Science, SULI places undergraduate physics or engineering majors in paid 10-week summer internships at Fermilab. These internships offer students the opportunity to work with Fermilab scientists and engineers on projects at the frontier of scientific research in particle physics.

Eligibility

• Full-time undergraduate enrollment at an accredited community college, two-year university or four-year institution and completion of at least one semester as a matriculating undergraduate. Advanced Placement (AP) or other pre-matriculation credits do not count towards the one-semester completion requirement.
• Recently graduated with an undergraduate degree. Your degree must have been awarded no more than two years before the SULI program start date.
• By the application deadline, applicants must have completed at least 6 STEM credit hours and 12 total undergraduate credit hours, with grades shown on submitted transcripts. AP or undergraduate credits earned in high school do not count.
• Undergraduate cumulative minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
• Must possess a high school diploma or certificate of General Education Development (GED)
• 18 years of age
• Must be a United States Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident at the time of application.
• May participate in the SULI program twice and can apply to the SULI program a maximum of three times.

• Offer Period:  February 3 – March 31, 2027
• Acceptance Period:  February 3 – May 31, 2027
• Salary: $650.00 per week
• Housing: Not provided. Local housing information available.
• Transportation: Paid round-trip airfare, or mileage reimbursement if permanent address is more than 50 miles from host laboratory.
• Location: Onsite work schedule

2027 Spring Term

• Program Dates: January 11, 2027 – April 30, 2027
