Program Description
The Office of Science Graduate Student Research program provides supplemental funds for graduate awardees to conduct part of their thesis research at a host DOE laboratory or facility in collaboration with a DOE laboratory scientist within a defined award period. Collaborating DOE laboratory scientists may be from any of the participating DOE national laboratories or facilities.
The award period for the proposed research project at DOE laboratories/facilities may range from 3 to 12 consecutive months.
Eligibility
- Minimum age and U.S. citizenship or permanent residency
- Academic status
- Enrollment in a qualified graduate program
- Graduate research aligned with DOE Office of Science Research Programs
- Collaboration with a DOE laboratory scientist

Internship Details
- Program Dates: Between November 2, 2026, and March 1, 2027
- Application Dates: February 11, 2026 – May 6, 2026, at 5:00PM ET
- Offer Period: September 8 – 21, 2026
- Acceptance Period: September 8 – 21, 2026
- Salary: Monthly stipend in the amount of up to $3,600
- Transportation: Paid round-trip airfare, or mileage reimbursement if permanent address is more than 50 miles from host laboratory.
- Location: Onsite work schedule
